Why you should buy a speedcube
by
| Last updatedA speedcube is an optimized version of the regular Magic Cube. But that doesn’t mean you cannot start with a speedcube as a beginner.
It’s the other way around: Speedcubes are cheap and you can still use them after a while, cause they rotate fast enough for every skill level. The best speedcube in 2019 in our opinion is the D Fantix Cyclone – and it only costs about $8.
In this guide you will learn what makes a speedcube so fast, where the tiny (but important) differences hide and what speedcube is the best option for you.
What makes a great speedcube?
There are many factors you have to look out for. Some are objectively good or bad. In some cases you have to find out what is best for you. Here are the four most important features:
1. Corner cutting & reverse corner cutting
Corner cutting is very important in a quick solve! It is the ability to make a turn, while the vertical face is not fully aligned. Without corner cutting the speedcube would lock up very often. Reverse corner cutting is the ability to make a turn when the center piece is physically blocking the corner piece.
2. Pop resistance
Pop resistance is only important, if you solve the magic cube extremely fast (10 moves per second and above). Most speedcubes are pop resistant, however there is no cube that is 100% save. If a piece pops out during a competition, you’re disqualified for that round.
3. Weight
Light speedcubes are not always the best choice. In this case it is a matter of self-preference. If you don’t have experience, choose a cube about 80gr, that is the average weight.
4. Magnetic versions
This is a new feature which became popular fast. There are tiny magnets inside the cube that are made to avoid overshooting a turn. Thus, the magnets give a haptic feedback, you get a better feeling of the cube. Of course the magnetic versions are more expensive – but still: If you had never tried a magnetic speedcube before, you will be satisfied.

This cube is fast, precise and smooth. This is the right choice for you, if you are looking for a crazy good cube for a reasonable price tag. The regular price is $20 – but this speedcube is in sale very often.
